This exhibition features new works created during this time of a global pandemic that embody the artist’s wishes for a peaceful and bright future for all. Harada expresses the light that can be found in the dark, and continues to push sculpture, foam, and acrylic and watercolor painting to new heights in her practice. This exhibition is the second exhibition of the museum’s Texas Asian Women Artists Series.

Born in Tokyo, Japan, Kana Harada studied graphic design, Japanese fine art, and drawing at the Ochanomizu School of Fine Arts, Tokyo, Japan. Now based in the United States, Harada crafts intricate sculptures of hand-cut foam, and creates detailed watercolors suggestive of fantastical dreamscapes. Her work reflects the spirit of trees and flowers, and a sense of joy and serenity.

Harada has participated in numerous solo exhibitions, including shows at The Dallas Center for Contemporary Art; the Fort Worth Community Art Center; the McKinney Avenue Contemporary, Dallas; the Promo-arte Project Gallery, Tokyo; Mighty Fine Arts Gallery, Dallas; Koelsch Gallery, Houston; and The Old Jail Art Center, Albany, Texas. She was recently featured in a group exhibition at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art. Several institutions include her work in their collections, including the Trammell and Margaret Crow Collection of Asian Art, Dallas, Texas and The Old Jail Art Center, Albany, Texas.
